Contact sports argument essay

Parents want their kids to be safe while playing sports. Sports have gotten safer over the years, but many kids still get hurt playing contact sports.  Participation in youth football has dropped, because people are realizing how dangerous youth sports can be.  President Obama said that if he had a son, he might not let him play football for fear of being injured.  Teens shouldn’t play contact sports, because they can get a serious injury and because they can feel pressured to win.
Contact sports can give teens unnecessary stress.  Teens want to win, it is a natural part of being human, but that can lead to stress.  Teens don’t want to lose and let their teammates or themselves down.  The pressure to succeed can be overwhelming -- and that can lead to a lot of frustration and tears.  In some cases, sports pressure is self-inflicted.  Some kids are natural perfectionists and are just too hard of themselves when things don’t go their way.  “Teens want to play perfectly and when they don’t or can’t it can lead to stress and tears.   Teens want the respect of their coaches and parents, but sometimes trying to meet the demands of these adults can be harmful. “  Kidshealth.org.   More often than not, the pressure is external.  Kids try to satisfy the demands of a parent, coach, or other authority figure and end up feeling like winning is the only way to gain the approval of the adults they respect. Teens don’t want to let down their parent or coach.  The popularity of contact sports push players to work harder to prove that they are talented and so they don’t let down their classmates or schools.
Many teens get injured or even killed when they play contact sports.  Since teens are still growing, they can get injured easily.  Because of this, kids should try to be safe.  “in 2013, there were 1.24 million emergency room visits by kids who got injured during sports.”  www.wsj.com/videos/How Children and Teens can avoid sports injuries. Teens should not be getting injured while playing sports especially in such large numbers.  According to the Huffington Post, “39 football players have died since 2000 because of injuries they got from playing.”  For anyone to die while playing a sport is ridiculous.  People play sports to be healthy and have fun.  Some sports are obviously too dangerous for teens, because they are getting injured and dying.  Harsher rules and regulations should be put in place so teens are safe and stop dying young from something that supposed to be healthy.
Some people say that competition is good for you and helps you learn life skills, but it can cause kids to hurt themselves and others.  Some people think that competition is needed and you should have a lot of it.  “Competition by its very nature is barbaric. You survive and adapt by beating others.” If a sports is so competitive that it becomes barbaric, the rules should be changed so that it is not barbaric.  One of the key aspects of contact sports is that the competition between players and teams is played out in a physical way.  Teens want to win to prove themselves, for their team, friends, school or to get a college scholarship.  The Wall Street Journal says, “42% of kids who play sports said they had played injured.” www.wsj.com/videos/How Children and Teens can avoid sports injuries.    Playing injured can make the injury so much worse.  Teens shouldn’t feel pressured by themselves or others to play injured.
Parents shouldn’t be letting their kids do something that is dangerous to them and others around them.  No matter how fun playing a s sport can be, it would be a lot more fun if teens weren’t getting hurt.  Contact sports can be too much for teens and something has to be done about it to make the lives of teens who play contact sports healthier and safer.

Eleanor, strong, deep, and bright like Eleanor Roosevelt. I was named after her. I think  Eleanor is a powerful and elegant name which is so not me. I think My parents named me after Eleanor Roosevelt because they know she was a strong women, and admired her for her devotion to human rights and those less fortunate. I feel strongly about many causes that are important like the environment, and animal rights. I think that if she was alive today she would also feel strongly about those issues to, along with many others that I feel strongly about. As I grow up I hope I become more like her in the fact that she fought for what was right and what she believed in. I also hope that my interest in issues grows even stronger like Eleanor’s did.

I like to be called Elly which I think  is way more bright and cheerful than Eleanor, way more me. To me the name Elly is more fun and happy. It's like the sun, a big ball of energy and brightness in one little four letter name.

Mostly when I’m with my friends I go by Elly which Ilike because I’m more happy and cheery when I’m with them and not serious, which I can be but not often. I think that Eleanor and Elly are like two different sides of the same me, two names, two sides, one me.

This summer, I read the Selected Series (The Selected, The Elite, The One) by Kiera Cass.  I really liked the books, because the characters' perspective changes, changing my view of the characters too.  I also liked how throughout the books the author wrote in small facts and details that in the end all connect together.
First of all, I liked the books because I was always learning new information on characters which changed my view of them.  For example, I started out the book liking Aspen. who is American's boyfriend (she is the main character)  When he broke up with her when she thought he was going to propose, I didn't like him anymore.  Later in the book, I got his side of the story, I liked him again.  It went on and off as I learned more about him and what he was made of.
Another reason, I liked the books is that the author added small details throughout the book that you would slowly put together and finally fully understand the point at the end of the book. Throughout the book I got more information on the rebels such as that some of the rebels were peaceful and that America's dad was a rebel.  The fact that she was named America and a lot of meaning since America was a fallen country.
I really liked these books because they had many layers.  You have to keep reading to find out what's next, and I never knew what was going to happen next.
